Info about PhD program

The Sorbonne Université (SU)-Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Joint PhD Degree Programme (cotutelle) provides students with unique opportunities to be advised by SU and NTU academics with complementary interdisciplinary expertise.

Highlights:

  • Co-supervised by both SU and NTU academics
  • Interdisciplinary research
  •  Spend one year abroad either in Singapore or in Paris
  • Receive joint degree (two certificates, one from SU and one from NTU)

As part of the programme, the Joint Students will start at the university where they receive their scholarships (home university) and they will spend one year abroad at the co-supervisor's laboratory (partner university), either in Paris or in Singapore, while working on their joint PhD project.

To apply for admission to the programme, students will need to:

  • Identify the home university (either SU or NTU);
  • Connect with potential supervisors (see the list of available joint projects here);
  • Recommended by the Joint Admission Committee (JAC).

Admission to the university is separate from admission to the programme. For SU, admission to the programme will be concurrent with the admission to the university while for NTU, the admission can be considered in the first 12 months of admission to the university.

The duration of the candidacy for students with SU scholarship is 3 years and for those with NTU scholarship is 4 years.

Joint PhD Students will be required to fulfill the graduation requirements from the university where they received their scholarship. In addition, the Students will be subjected to the requirements of the joint degree programme, that is combined examinations for thesis review and oral defense.
